Wind Wave

2022

Blockchain, NFTs, Interactive installation , wearable

Five factors influence the formation of the flow structures in wind waves:

1. Wind speed or strength relative to wave speed;

2. The wind blows without significant change in direction;

3. Width of the area affected by fetch;

4. The time for which the wind has blown over the water;

5. Water depth.

This interactive work is a reflection on the power of language and the impact it can have on individuals, particularly those with disabilities. Viewers can actively participate in the discussion by purchasing NFT tickets and occupying a space for personal opinions and attitudes. Additionally, by clicking the "Let's see the waves" button during the live stream, viewers can give the artist an electric shock and observe the uncontrollable muscle reactions that result.

As someone who has conducted long-term research in the disability community, I have been struck by individual cases that have profoundly impacted me. In particular, I have encountered people with cerebral palsy who arenot mentally impaired but who have been subjected to hurtful language such as "NaoChun(脑残)" or "ShenJing(神经)", and other derogatory terms that amplify the echo of these words in silence. Such language can cause harm to those who are already suffering, and it is important that we all strive to be mindful and considerate of our words.

Mindless, Curious, Deliberate, Excited, Looking for Presence... People are pushing the envelope. People are doing it even if it costs them and needs to be documented. I want to emphasize the invisible damage of language, like a gust of wind; it can make big waves and produce instant heart-stopping sensations.

Research

(1) Electrical stimulation

(2) Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS or TNS) is the use of electric current produced by a device to stimulate the nerves for therapeutic purposes. The unit is usually connected to the skin using two or more electrodes which are typically conductive gel pads. A typical battery-operated TENS unit is able to modulate pulse width, frequency, and intensity. Generally, TENS is applied at high frequency (>50 Hz) with an intensity below motor contraction (sensory intensity) or low frequency (<10 Hz) with an intensity that produces motor contraction.

I was first introduced to Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation in the summer of 2021. At that time, I suffered from Bell's palsy, specifically the inability to control the right side of my face, the inability to close my eyes, the loss of taste in the first two-thirds of my tongue, etc. I was given electro-acupuncture as a way to stimulate my facial nerves and rejuvenate them.
